Adeola Ogunmola: First Nigeria Female Pilot to Fly Boeing 787

Captain Adeola Ogunmola Sowemimo is a Nigerian Aircraft pilot, born in Kaduna State but hails from Ogbomosho, Oyo State.

She is the first Nigerian at Qatar Airways and the first Nigerian female pilot to fly the Boeing 787 Dreamliner across the Atlantic.

After her secondary school education, she applied for a pre-degree course at LAUTECH, Oyo State, but she couldn’t finish it so she decided to apply to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, Kaduna where she start her standard aviation course.

In 2011, she completed her standard aviation course at Sunrise Aviation flight school, a top professional pilot training school located in Ormond Beach, Florida.

After her education from the aviation school, she joined Medview Airlines, a Nigerian airline based in Lagos in 2013 as a First Officer on Boeing 737 classic, and was later upgraded to Boeing 767-300ER.

She joined Qatar Airways and became the first Nigerian woman to fly the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on 20 October 2018. She also flew the Boeing 767 Aircraft across the Atlantic Ocean, and on 28 November 2020 after Qatar Airways launched its inaugural flight to Abuja, she started flying the new Qatar airways local Lagos to Abuja route.
