Hajia Mariam Iddrisu, the Executive Director of the Girls to Women Foundation (G2WF) in Ghana, has been at the forefront of advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls since the organization’s inception in 2018.
With a background in Community Health and Development, and experience as the Mayor of Sagnarigu Municipality, Hajia Mariam brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to her role.
Under her guidance, G2WF has implemented various initiatives focusing on education, health, economic empowerment, leadership, governance, and climate change. Programs like Girls in STEM aim to bridge the gender gap in science and technology fields, while Skills4Livelihood provides vocational training to at-risk girls and young women, promoting economic independence.
Hajia Mariam’s commitment to promoting female leadership is evident in initiatives like Empower2Lead, which encourages girls and young women to take on leadership roles in their communities and schools. Her efforts have led to increased participation of women in decision-making processes, contributing to more inclusive governance structures.
In collaboration with Plan International Ghana, G2WF launched the “Indigenous Woman in Leadership” project, facilitating the inclusion of women in traditional councils within the Sagnarigu Traditional Council.
This initiative received full endorsement from all 20 Garizegu council members, marking a significant step towards gender equality in local governance.
