One of the world’s most influential and inspiring women and a fashion icon, American Lawyer and Author Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama, born January 17, 1964) makes history as the First African American First Lady of the United States. A position she held from 2009 to 2017.

Before life in the White House brought Michelle to the spotlight as wife of the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama, she had an illustrious Law career and
a six-figure first job at a corporate law firm, Sidley Austin – where she met future hubby Barack Obama. In 1991, she held public sector positions in the Chicago city government as an Assistant to the Mayor, and as Assistant Commissioner of Planning and Development. In 1993, she was made Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies, a non-profit organisation.

In 1996, Obama was appointed Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago and in 2002, she began working for the University of Chicago Hospitals, first as executive director for community affairs and, beginning May 2005, as Vice President for Community and External Affairs – a position she held during the primary campaign of 2008, but decided to take a leave of absence later on, to focus on the elections as well as family.

The Princeton and Harvard-educated lawyer
was undeniable a strong force in her husband’s 2007-2008 presidential campaign which led to his making history as the first black president.
