Ruth Erikan James, popularly known as Veekee James, has revolutionized the Nigerian fashion industry with her unique designs and entrepreneurial spirit. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, she hails from Akwa Ibom State and was introduced to tailoring by her mother, a professional tailor.
Veekee’s passion for fashion was evident from a young age, as she began creating and selling knitted wears in her local community. In 2018, she officially launched her fashion brand, “Veekee James,” which quickly gained recognition for its creativity and elegance. Her designs are known for presenting clients in a sculpted light, instilling confidence and class.
Despite facing financial constraints and the challenges of establishing a brand in a competitive industry, Veekee’s determination led her to open a fashion outlet on Lagos Mainland, later relocating to Lagos Island for greater opportunities. Her brand expanded to include “Veekee James Man” for men’s wear and “Shoprikan” for women’s fashion.
Her talent and hard work have been recognized with numerous awards, including the AMVCA Best Designer Award in 2021 and the Future Awards Africa in 2023. Beyond fashion, Veekee is a gospel singer and the convener of “Zion Warship,” a monthly gospel concert, showcasing her multifaceted talents.
Veekee also dedicates time to mentoring aspiring fashion designers. In 2023, she organized her first masterclass, aiding over 100 fashion creatives from different countries in developing their skills. Her podcast, “Bible Stories With Veekee James,” launched in March 2023, reflects her commitment to faith and storytelling.
