Simone Edmonson is determination personified! Although her success journey was fraught with challenges, she pulled through to establish herself in the sleepwear industry with a positive mindset.
Simone is the founder of the popular pyjamas brand Dreams and Jammies, LLC. Launched in August of 2020 with the importance of representation for black kids in mind, it proudly incorporates Black children in their designs. According to her, representation helps build self-esteem and encourage them to dream.
One of Simone’s daily affirmations is, “My mind has the POWER to create what it sees. And I believe that with all of my heart. My vision of seeing little children of color having self-love while wearing my company’s jammies.”
Reflecting on her motive in delving into the industry, Simone says:
“I’ve always been an entrepreneur and owning my own business has always been a dream of mine. I worked in corporate America for 20 years with this dream of business always or the forefront of my mind. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted the business to be but I always loved business. I’ve tried many many unsuccessful businesses along the way. Dreams and Jammies came about from a conversation with my sister regarding the lack of representation in retail. That conversation challenged me to build a pajama line to include designs that are inspired by Black and Brown children.”
“Over the years, I could not find pajamas that contained images of black girls. I decided to change that and create a collection of pajamas that celebrates our individuality. My designs capture the sweetness and love of our beautiful black princesses.” she explained.
Her designs showcase black girls sporting puffs and braids. Recently Simone expanded the Dreams and Jammies collection to black boys holding the superhero stance.
Dreams and Jammies pajamas are 100% cotton, with the promise of comfortable sleep.
The company consists of Simone’s husband and niece. Their first product line – Comfy Collection was greeted with rave reviews from parents and their children. The company brand has grown and now boasts many new items including girls’ underwear, Pink backpacks, Slumber Girl Warm gripper socks as well as adjustable satin hair bonnets, etc.
