Mattel has officially released a doll in four time Grand slam champ Naomi Osaka’s likeness.
Designed by Carlyle Nuera, the Osaka doll, part of the Barbie Role Models Doll line featuring inspiring women from around the globe sees the world tennis champ, 23 decked in her outfit from the 2020 Australian Open.
No surprise, the doll sold out just hours after it’s release on Monday for $29.99, Mattel disclosed.
“I hope every child is reminded that they can be and do anything,” Osaka tweeted on Monday after announcing the release of the toy.
Designer Carlyle Nuera, who worked on this collection, dishing on the line said;
“What I personally admire the most about Naomi Osaka is how she uses her platform, the spotlight on her and her voice, to raise awareness about social justice,” Nuera said in a press release.
Recall in May, Osaka withdrew from the French Open due to mental health reasons. Plans are in gear for Osaka at the 2020 Olympics Games in Japan.
