In the fast-evolving world of Web3, Oluchi Enebeli stands out as a pioneering force. As the founder of Web3Ladies and co-founder of Crevatal, she’s not just shaping the future of blockchain technology—she’s also championing gender equality in a space where women remain vastly underrepresented.

Enebeli’s story begins at the University of Benin, where she studied Mathematics, determined to graduate with first-class honours. When that dream fell short, the disappointment was crushing—so much so that she couldn’t face going home. Instead, she stayed on campus, searching for a new path.

At the time, her understanding of tech was limited to graphic design and desktop publishing—blockchain engineering wasn’t even on her radar. She considered networking courses, but finances stood in her way. Then, a free WordPress training hosted by her church changed everything. That single opportunity ignited her passion for web development, leading to an internship at Crenet Tech Labs in Lagos.

It was there she stumbled upon a blockchain hackathon. Though she knew nothing about the technology, curiosity pushed her to dive in—and she was hooked. She soon realised blockchain was far more than cryptocurrency; it was a transformational tool for transparency, governance, and financial empowerment.

Enebeli’s newfound expertise opened doors she’d never imagined. She competed in more hackathons, connected with industry leaders, and landed a role as a blockchain engineer at Sterling Bank. From there, her career skyrocketed, taking her to global giants like Binance, Crypto.com, and Nestcoin.

“Blockchain unlocked opportunities I never thought possible,” she told Tech Next. “As an engineer, it transformed my financial literacy and gave me a career with real impact.”

As she climbed the ranks, Enebeli noticed a glaring imbalance—women made up just 2-5% of blockchain engineering teams. Determined to change this, she launched Web3Ladies in 2021, a community dedicated to training African women in blockchain and Web3. Her ambitious goal? To onboard 100,000 women into the industry.

The impact has been staggering. By 2022, the initiative had already trained over 2,000 women, many of whom went on to secure jobs, build projects, and even launch their own start-ups. Today, Web3Ladies boasts over 153,890 members across Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, and Uganda, providing access to 25+ essential tools and supporting 24 women-led projects.

The community is also making waves in universities, introducing young women to blockchain early in their careers. Plus, it’s creating a talent pipeline*, helping companies directly hire skilled female engineers trained within the network.

Enebeli’s journey is more than just a personal success story—it’s a testament to the power of resilience, curiosity, and inclusion. By breaking barriers in a male-dominated field, she’s proving that the future of Web3 should be diverse, accessible, and full of opportunity for everyone.
