Instagram has kicked off its international and pan-African campaign, “Made By Africa, Loved by the World,” in celebration of Africa Day on May 25. This year’s campaign highlights the achievements of four extraordinary women who have made a significant impact globally through their work in sports, entertainment, and music.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, Kezia Anim-Addo, Communications Director for Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey (AMET) at Meta, announced the 2024 campaign. Now in its fourth year, the campaign features inspiring women from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, and, for the first time, Egypt. The women spotlighted this year are Eniola Aluko, Bontle Modiselle, Victoria Kimani, and Tasneem Elaidy.
“These are women who are contributing to positively shaping the female African narrative and inspiring change across football, music, entertainment, and culture,” said Anim-Addo. “At Instagram, we’re deeply rooted in culture and connection, and we know our platform provides the perfect space to showcase passions and creativity while inspiring a worldwide audience.”
The campaign includes four short films that tell the stories of these trailblazing women, capturing their successes, challenges, and passions. These films were produced in collaboration with emerging filmmakers Haya Khairat from Egypt, Michael Rodrigues from South Africa, Nyasha Kadandara from Kenya, and London-based Nigerian Aaliyah McKay alongside co-director Shehroze Khan. The films aim to amplify the unique voices and stories of these women, showcasing their contributions to changing how Africa is perceived globally.
In addition to the films, Instagram is partnering with local African content creators to host the third edition of the community challenge, “#ShareYourAfrica.” This initiative brings together both emerging and established content creators to celebrate African identity and culture.
