Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania’s sixth president, has consistently broken barriers throughout her political career. In May 2025, she was honored with the ‘Order of the Mother of the Nation’ by the United Arab Emirates, recognizing her leadership and contributions to national development. This accolade underscores her commitment to fostering unity and progress within Tanzania.
Ascending to the presidency in March 2021 following the passing of President John Magufuli, Hassan became the first female head of state in Tanzania and the East African region. Her tenure has been marked by efforts to strengthen democratic institutions, promote economic growth, and advocate for women’s empowerment. Under her leadership, Tanzania has seen significant strides in infrastructure development, healthcare improvements, and educational reforms.
Hassan’s administration has also prioritized combating corruption and enhancing transparency within government operations. Her recognition by the UAE not only celebrates her achievements but also highlights the growing influence of African women leaders on the global stage.
President Hassan continues to inspire many with her dedication to public service and her vision for a prosperous Tanzania.
