British-Nigerian Techie Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE Becomes Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is set to welcome British-Nigerian tech entrepreneur Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE as its new chancellor, succeeding Annie Lennox OBE. The 34-year-old Imafidon, known for her exceptional achievements in the tech industry and academia, will officially assume the role after a graduation ceremony in July.

Imafidon expressed her deep honor at being welcomed to an institution that stands for the common good. In her new capacity, she will confer degrees on students and help promote GCU’s vision.

Imafidon’s journey to this prestigious role is marked by remarkable accomplishments. She made history as the youngest person to pass A-Level computing at just 11 years old and went on to receive a Master’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Oxford, becoming one of the youngest people to achieve this feat.

Imafidon’s impact extends beyond academia; she was voted the Most Influential Woman in Tech in the UK in 2020 and served as the President of the British Science Association from 2022 to 2023. An accomplished international speaker and author, with works including “She’s in CTRL” and “How to be a Math Whizz,” Imafidon has received honorary doctorates from several universities, including Open University, Kent University, Bristol University, and others, along with an Honorary Fellowship at Keble College, Oxford.

Imafidon expressed her excitement about representing GCU as it enters a new era, highlighting her commitment to the common good and her role as an ambassador for ambitious education and impactful research. Her appointment underscores GCU’s commitment to excellence and innovation, setting the stage for a promising future under her leadership.
