The year 2020 was no doubt an unforgettable year which left heartrending scars in the life of countless families. The global pandemic witnessed the death of 4million people worldwide out of which 130,000 lost their lives in the United Kingdom alone.
Even as we still struggle to take grasp of the cruel reality of lives being changed forever, trying to get some semblance of normalcy amid it all, reflecting on the tragedy of the loss of loved ones, the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK(CANUK) on Saturday August 7, 2021 gathered at the St. Olave’s Church Hall, London to pray for the souls of the dearly departed from the Nigerian community as well as pouring out encouragement to families of the deceased, renewing vows of commitment to one another and sounding a clarion call for others to do same.
Present at the sober occasion organised by CANUK were Nigerian dignitaries including Mrs. Saliat Ishola (Wife of the High Commissioner), Mr. Taiwo Osunaiye (1st Secretary to the high commission), Kate Osamor MP, Dr. Boma Douglas, Chief Bimbo Folayan, Chief Adebayo Oladimeji, Councillor Susan Fajana-Thomas, Councillor Sade Etti, Councillor Kate Anolue, Paul Harrison (Tropical Sun), Vivienne Orieke (Secretary), Itshekiri Congress UK, Olaoluwa Ogunrinade (VP, Ondo Union UK), and Toyin Eweje (VP, Ibadan Oluyole Union UK).
Duchess Bolaji Odunuga, Publisher of Duchess International Magazine and Duke International Magazine was also on ground to offer her support.
Giving his opening remarks Chairman of CANUK, Hon. Ayo Akinfe, charged for new beginnings, urging all Nigerians in the diaspora to abide in unity and love, supporting one another. He also reiterated CANUK’s continual support for the entire community.
