Victoria Esa is an inspiring leader in the field of environmental sustainability. Starting from her local community in Agila, Ado LGA of Benue State, where she witnessed the negative effects of climate change, such as deforestation for agriculture and interstate boundary clashes, her experiences ignited her passion for protecting the environment.
Esa’s unique attributes and qualities coupled with the support from her family, envisions a future where her professional dreams align with a sustainable planet. Despite facing challenges and skepticism, she remains determined to change the world by changing her environment.

She discusses the principles that guide her path and the shortcuts she discovered along the way. According to the environmental activist, her strategies for overcoming setbacks, and breaking through gender barriers, are rooted in her staying true to her environmental principles. She proves that the path to sustainability is not just about protecting the planet but also navigating the challenges of a professional career.
Esa has mentored many young people with a passion for environmental development. She has a particular interest in empowering women and young girls through skills acquisition programs and social behavioral communication. Currently, she is establishing Climate Justice Clubs in secondary schools in Benue State to engage passionate students in addressing the effects of climate change.
Esa has been involved in various afforestation programs across Nigeria to take urgent environmental action. These initiatives aim not only to combat deforestation but also to foster connections between communities and the environment. They promote biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and mitigate the effects of climate change.

To strengthen her knowledge and expertise in environmental issues, Esa pursued higher education in environmental-related disciplines. She completed a Higher National Diploma in Forestry, a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. These educational experiences provided her with a solid foundation and practical experiences in environmental science, sustainability, policy analysis, financial management, and organizational leadership.
Esa has participated in various courses, workshops, and conferences both locally and internationally to broaden her understanding of global environmental issues. She has attended conferences on food security and nutrition, women’s empowerment, leadership training, and international women’s conferences. By staying informed about emerging trends and issues, she remains at the forefront of the climate space.
In recognition of her leadership, influence, and contribution to the environment, Mrs. Esa was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to the former governor of Benue State. In this role, she goes beyond routine duties and is involved in strategic planning, crisis management, public policy reforms, and other challenges facing the government.
Esa established the Environment and Climate Change Amelioration Initiative (ECCAI) in 2007 as a way of giving back to society. ECCAI develops strategies to address climate issues, advocates for environmental policies, raises awareness, and inspires action. Through national and international partnerships, ECCAI mobilizes resources and drives initiatives to tackle the urgent challenges posed by climate change in Nigeria.

Esa is happily married and has three children who are successful in their respective careers. She demonstrates that it is possible to balance a fulfilling personal life with a thriving professional career in environmental leadership.
