Taraji P. Henson Set To Star As Villan In NBC's Musical Annie Live

Beloved Empire star, Taraji P. Henson, a three time Emmy nominee is taking on a new exciting role as Miss Hannigan, an orphanage manager who hates children!

The production will also see a young Annie dreaming for a better life. The search is currently ongoing to find the actress who would play Annie, the protagonist

“When we decided to bring back NBC’s holiday musical tradition, we were looking for something that was critically acclaimed and universally beloved — and while that’s definitely the case with Annie, it absolutely applies to Taraji as well,” said Susan Rovner, chairman entertainment content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “Watching her take on this iconic role will be a thrill that has all the makings of must-watch television.”

Annie Live set to air late in 2021 will see former NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt and Neil Meron executive producing.

“Carol Burnett, who brought Miss Hannigan to life in the classic 1982 movie, is someone I have studied and idolized as far back as I can remember,” said Henson. “So when the opportunity came to me to join NBC and this incredible group of producers, I jumped! Carol, I hope to do you proud.”

Henson is also known for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, What Men Want, Proud Mary and Think Like a Man.

Greenblatt and Meron are executive producing Annie Live with Alex Rudzinski (Grease Live), who will also direct with Lear deBessonet. Chloe Productions is producing, Hollywood Reporter reports.
