In today’s world, alarming statistics reveal 200 million women and girls have undergone some form of genital mutilation in 31 countries including Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Egypt, Eritrea, Liberia, Zambia as well as other countries across Africa. Findings also reveal the harmful practise is prevalent in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In Europe, Australia and the United States.

For decades, this violence against women has caused physical and emotional scars, lasting a lifetime, hence calling for urgent efforts to protect the girl child and ensure total combat of FGM. Although efforts have yielded in the practice becoming less prevalent in some countries, much still need be done to prevent the girl child from being subjected to such ugly harrowing ordeal.
