Advancing The Essence of African Culture!
The beauty and glamour of African culture were in full showcase at the highly anticipated 2021 edition of Culturati – Africa’s largest cultural fusion, event, exhibition, and award brand. The initiative which recognizes and honors the tireless contributions of art luminaries in different creative endeavors with lens set on raising Cultural Ambassadors, held December 3rd, 2021 at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
This year’s edition, which marks the 15th edition of Culturati, powered with the theme ‘Bringing Africa to Lagos’ saw a host of dignitaries across the globe grace the event including Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; (Ọjájá II) the Ooni of Ife, Iyalaje Oodua, Princess (Dr.) Toyin Kolade, Nike Art Gallery founder, Nike Davies-Okundaye among others. The event was also attended by performers including 9ice and, Small Doctor who performed as well as talking drummer Ara, actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday and socialite Pretty Mike of Lagos.
Amongst the event awardees are Foluke Michael who was honored with the Special Recognition Award.
The edutainment initiative, formerly known as “My Heritage, My Pride and Sis Oge”, a proud celebration of Africa’s rich, diverse cultural heritage interestingly features a blend of activities including music, dance, fashion, beauty, empowerment programs among others as a tool of tourism attraction and exploration to boost economic development.
Convener of Culturati, Idris Aregbe, speaking on the motive of the establishment said;
“The creative industry holds a huge prospect for youth as that is an area that can conveniently accommodate African youths, endowed with a plethora of creative talents.
“The gap in the strategic needs of African countries can be bridged by well-articulated direction of the creative industry, where the energy of youths can be guided to meaningfully and sustainably contribute to socio-economic fortunes. This is what Culturati is about.”
