Super talented American director and screenwriter Nia DaCosta, 30, noted for writing and directing crime thriller film Little Woods (her debut film starring Tessa Thompson and Lily James which garnered high praise from critics) and also directing the highly anticipated upcoming horror
Jordan Peele produced film Candyman will take her place as the new director of the sequel to Captain Marvel. She will become the first Black woman to ever direct a Marvel Studios movie.
The film will be set for release summer 2022.
DaCosta will take over the mantle from Anna Bodn and Ryan Fleck – directors of the first installment of the box-office film. Marvel has had the tradition of changing its directors in the sequel of movies in hopes to give it a fresh take. This recent move is also in efforts towards inclusion and diversity by the firm.
