Mpumi Madisa: First black and African female to be appointed CEO of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange

Nompumelelo Thembekile Madisa famously known by the family name Mpumi Madisa is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Bidvest group the first black and African female of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, South Africa. A position she has held since July 2020.

Madisa was born in Mohlakeng, west of Gauteng in South Africa, and grew up in Sebokeng to the south of Johannesburg.

Mpumi entered a career as Businessperson in her early life after completing her formal education. She was employed by Hollard Insurance as a trainee marketing assistant and worked there for 18 months and then left to work at Prestige, a Bidvest subsidiary specializing in cleaning. Three years later, she left Prestige to work in the public service as chief director of transformation at the Gauteng department of agriculture and rural development. On returning to Prestige, she served as corporate affairs director in charge of four departments and sales director. A few months later, she was promoted to work at the group level and was appointed to the Bidvest board.

She is an alumnus of the Wits University, graduating with a Master’s degree in Finance and Investment, and Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics.

In 2020, Avance media named her on the Inaugural List of 100 Most Influential African Women.
