Meet Dr. Velma Trayham: She conquered extreme poverty to become an award-winning entrepreneur empowering minorities

Financial and health disparities exist, leading to higher rates of social and health problems and overall lower level of economic growth and in efforts to cushion the impacts on the underserved, Dr. Velma Trayham, top entreprenuer author, speaker, CEO of ThinkZILLA Consulting, is stepping up and helping empower communities.

Through her community and economic empowerment agency which has since spread across different locations, it opened its fourth office in Phoenix last year, Dr. Trayham is uplifting and paving way for great legacies.

Giving a glimpse at her success journey and struggles encountered to get to where she is now, she recalls being born in extreme poverty in Houston, Texas, but amazingly, she beat the odds stacked against her to become super successful and is gladly helping others do this too.

“One of the things I realized is that most people will do better if they knew better,” Dr. Trayham, told ABC15 Mornings anchor Kaley O’Kelley. Thankfully Dr. Trayham is dedicatedly creating awareness.

Even when change is difficult, “you have to become the change you want to see in the world,” Dr. Trayham said, discussing the implicit bias that women and minorities face every day.

Dr. Velma Trayham, a firm believer of equality and community empowerment, as an agent of change is looking towards economic empowerment among women in future. As CEO of ThinkZILLA Consulting Group, focused on greater awareness to initiatives that support underserved communities, Dr. Trayham also founded the Millionaire Mastermind Academy, which has mentored more than 5,000 minority women business owners in its first three years.

In the one-on-one interview with O’Kelley, Dr. Trayham discussed the importance of facing your fears and overcoming roadblocks: “You can’t fix a problem if you don’t understand the culture, and I’m here to embrace leaders who are passionate about change,” she said. ThinkZILLA is helping people of color overcome challenges. “It’s definitely time for change, and I believe Arizona is a state that is embracing that change.”
