Father’s Day Celebration

By Duchess Magazine

Father’s Day is a celebration to commemorate fatherhood and as well as the influence they play in society. it’s also a day to express one’s admiration and love for fathers and to adore the father figures in one’s life. Fathers are role models, friends, protectors, guidances, and heroes for their children.

In the Catholic church in European countries, it is celebrated on 19 March as Saint Joseph’s Day, while in the United States, Father’s Day was founded by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, and celebrated on the third Sunday of June for the first time in 1910.

According to history, she was one of 6 children raised by her father after their mother died during the birth of the sixth child. She thought since Mother’s Day was established in 1908, why can’t we have the same holidays for father’s?

To fulfill her goal, she visited government officials, local churches, shopkeepers, and YMCA to convince them about her goal. Finally, on 19 June 1910, Father’s Day was celebrated in Washington State due to her hard work and resilience. Today it has been approved all over the world.

But across the globe, the day is celebrated on various dates, and different regions maintain their traditions of honoring fatherhood.

As we celebrate Father’s day today, we wish them long life, a sound mind, and a healthy living.

Happy Father’s Day!
