Neurosurgery, a medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with injury to, or diseases/disorders of the brain, spinal cord and spinal column, and peripheral nerves within all parts of the body, as defined by ohsu.edu has for decades sadly seen a lack of percentage of a good number of women in the field. Lack of mentorship and discrimination are some of the cited reasons responsible for the gender disparity of neurosurgeons. Thankfully, all around the world, women are challenging the norm and paving way in the field. Today we celebrate one of such trailblazing women, Djamila Kafoufi Benderbous!
