If you can dream it, you can achieve it. At only 26, Nigerian-Jamaican fashion and portrait photographer Nadine Ijewere has changed renowned magazine brand – Vogue’s 125-year global history by becoming the first black woman to shoot on its cover.
For the January 2019 issue of Vogue UK’s Future Issue, Nadine Ijewere landed the honours of being commissioned to shoot the magazine’s cover.
The photographer studied photography at the London College of Fashion. Upon graduating, she worked for an interior design company in Chelsea Harbour Design Centre, but dedicated spare moments – especially weekends to her photography.
Nadine credits the power of social media and being found by earliest collaborators, like stylist Ibrahim Kamara, through social media for her outstanding success.
Nadine also shot Rihanna’s cover for Allure Best of Beauty issue earlier this year.
Announcing her shooting the Vogue cover, an excited Nadine took to social media to write:
If you had told me last year I would have photographed for @britishvogue I would have said not possible , if you had told me a cover I would have thought perhaps in a parallel universe ! I am so so grateful for this opportunity I have been given to shoot for a publication where I once felt perhaps I didn’t belong . Thank you @edward_enninful for your part in changing the industry giving people like me the opportunity to exist in such a prestigious space .
This issue is full of wonderful and talented people such as Ib Kamara , Campbell Addy . Who I have known for such a long time and so happy to see us all striving with our creativity and friendship.
