Abena Osei-Poku: Managing Director ABSA Bank Ghana

Abena Osei-Poku is the managing director and chief executive officer of Absa Bank Ghana formerly known as (Barclays Bank of Ghana). She got appointed as the CEO in September 2018. Abena was born in Ghana in 1971.

Before becoming the CEO, she worked at Absa in South Africa where she was responsible for the Corporate & Investment Banking in East and West Africa, at the level of Managing Director.

Her banking career started in 2002 working with Standard Chartered Bank where she spent 7 years. In 2009, she got transferred to Barclays Bank where she spent part of the next 9 years serving as an executive director at Barclays Bank Ghana and the rest of the time in South Africa. She was responsible for operations in Africa, outside of South Africa.

She graduated from the University of Ghana in 1994 where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Statistics and a Master’s degree in business administration from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.

Abena is an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana and an honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
