Inspired by that encounter, Muturi initially dreamed of becoming a pilot. As her interests evolved, however, she discovered a passion for technology and analytical thinking that led her in a different direction. She earned a degree in Statistics and Computer Science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, later obtained a Diploma in Information Technology and completed an Executive MBA at Strathmore Business School, laying a strong foundation for her career in banking and financial technology.
Equipped with a strong educational background, Muturi began her career in Kenya’s banking industry, where she gained valuable experience in consumer finance, credit management and banking operations. Her professional journey took her through Standard Chartered Bank, Chase Bank and TransUnion Kenya, exposing her to the financial challenges faced by individuals and businesses. Her growing reputation for visionary leadership led her to Branch International, where she rose to become Managing Director for East Africa and Chief Executive Officer of Branch Microfinance Bank Kenya. Under her leadership, the organisation expanded beyond digital lending into comprehensive digital banking, delivering secure and accessible financial solutions to millions of customers across the region. By leveraging technology to reach underserved communities, she demonstrated how innovation could bridge long-standing gaps in financial access and empower individuals and small businesses to participate more fully in the formal economy.
Beyond her executive responsibilities, Muturi has played a significant role in shaping Kenya’s fintech ecosystem. As the founder of the Digital Lenders Association of Kenya and a board member of the Association of Microfinance Institutions Kenya, she has championed responsible lending, stronger consumer protection and industry collaboration. Her commitment to advancing financial inclusion has helped strengthen the digital finance sector while expanding access to affordable financial services for millions of people across East Africa.
In 2026, Muturi embarked on another significant chapter in her career when she was appointed Chief Executive Officer for Kenya at Moniepoint, one of Africa’s leading fintech companies. The appointment reflected the confidence placed in her ability to drive innovation, lead high-performing teams and deepen financial inclusion. It also reinforced her standing as one of the continent’s foremost leaders in digital finance and positioned her to contribute even more significantly to Africa’s rapidly evolving financial landscape.
