Hon. Folasade Adeyemo, Ph.D., has cemented her legacy as the first female chairman of Odeda Local Government, earning widespread acclaim for her exceptional leadership and transformative projects across the ten wards of the local government. Her tenure has been widely praised for its excellent performance in Ogun Central District and arguably the entire Ogun State.
Born on December 25, 1967, Folasade Waliat Adeyemo (née Soyinka Olowolagba) hails from a rich lineage of leadership. Her father, the late Alhaji Musendiku Oluwole Soyinka Olowolagba, was a direct descendant of Bashorun Somoye, the Regent/Ruler of Egbaland. Her mother, the late Alhaja Muinatu Adeyoyin, was a princess from the Malomo family of the Royal Otileta Ruling House.
Folasade’s early education in Ilaro, Ogun State, laid a strong foundation for her future achievements. She attended Nawarudeen NUD Primary School, Anglican Grammar School, and Egbado College (now Yewa College). She went on to earn her National Certificate of Education in Economics and Political Science from Lagos State College of Education in 1990, a Bachelor’s degree in Guidance & Counseling and Political Science from Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University) in 1997, and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Ibadan in 2000. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Ibadan.
Professional Journey
Folasade began her career as a teacher with the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission in 1991, teaching at various secondary schools before transitioning to tertiary education as a lecturer in the Department of Psychology, Guidance & Counseling at the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta in 2012. Her academic contributions include over 35 publications in journals, conferences, and seminars.
Political Ascent
Folasade’s political journey, influenced by her father’s political career, officially began in 2007. She has been a loyal member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), serving in various capacities and contributing significantly to party activities. Her roles have included:
- Member of the Education, Youth & Sports work group for Ogun State Economic Transition Committee (2019)
- Founder of Ogun State Progressive Teachers Forum (2013) and Ogun State Royal Ambassador (2019)
