Nigerian singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, has been nominated for the 96th Academy Awards, in the Best Original Song category. Tems was nominated for her contribution as a songwriter for Rihanna’s “Lift Me”, the soundtrack for Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

The Academy Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday and the winners will be honored at the ceremony in Los Angeles on March 12th. Tems co-wrote “Lift Me” with global singer Rihanna, music producer Ludwig Göransson, and Black Panther’s director Ryan Coogler.

This is not the first time Tems has received international recognition for her talent. In November 2022, she was nominated for the Grammy awards in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category as a featured artist on American rapper- Future’s single “Wait For U” and Best Rap Song for the same single. Additionally, her collaboration with Wizkid in their hit, “Essence” also earned her a nomination in the Best Global Music Performance category, making her the first Nigerian female singer to bag a Grammy nomination.

In a recent video circulating on social media platforms, American rapper Snoop Dogg reached out to Tems for a music collaboration. He claimed that his whole family has been dancing to her music and would like to work with her.
