With a career spanning over two decades, Aguele brings a wealth of experience in law, public policy, and gender advocacy to her new role.

Aguele’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Malala Fund, an organization dedicated to advocating for girls’ education and empowering young women globally. Since its inception in 2014, Malala Fund has invested more than $7.8 million in Nigerian partner organizations, focusing on improving educational opportunities for girls.

Previously, Aguele served as a Special Adviser to Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, where she played a crucial role in developing Nigeria’s Integrated National Financing Framework aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Her work included championing gender-responsive fiscal policies and budgets, demonstrating her commitment to integrating gender equality into national development strategies.

Before her tenure in Nigeria, Aguele was a faculty member at the American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL), where she taught in both the top-ranked Clinical Program and Intellectual Property Program. She also practiced intellectual property law at Morrison Foerster, a top 50 global law firm, and served as Special Assistant Attorney General with the District of Columbia Office of the Attorney General.

Aguele’s global perspective is further evidenced by her roles on the Boards of INSEAD, Girl Rising, and Women for Women International, as well as her position on the Advisory Board of TalentX Africa. Her extensive experience in public speaking includes engagements with The Financial Times, The Economist, The Center for Global Development, and the Clinton Global Initiative.

In her new role as CEO of Malala Fund Nigeria, Aguele will lead the organization’s advocacy, grantmaking portfolio, and external affairs in the country. She expressed her enthusiasm about the role, stating, “To help girls learn, we are advocating for the creation and implementation of key education policies. We are also supporting partner organizations working in states where girls face the greatest challenges to going to school. I am thrilled to join this team, connect with our partners, and support the next generation of girls in Nigeria.”

Aguele’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto, a Juris Doctor from AUWCL, and an MBA from INSEAD, where she was class valedictorian. Her appointment signifies a renewed commitment by Malala Fund to address the educational needs of girls in Nigeria and advance gender equality.
