Dr. Folashade Adeyemo is like a superhero in the world of legal education. She works at the University of Liverpool and is all about making sure everyone gets a fair shot at learning about the law, no matter where they come from. Having joined the School of Law and Social Justice in 2023 as a Senior Lecturer in Law, she was appointed as the Associate Dean for Globalisation in September 2024. She holds an LLB, LLM, and Ph.D., from the University of Westminster and Brunel University, London. She is also a Barrister, called to the Nigerian Bar.

Prior to joining Liverpool, Dr. Fola taught at Kingston University and most recently, at the University of Reading, where she held several leadership positions. These include leading as the Director of Admissions and as an integral member of the School’s internationalisation team; leading and spearheading initiatives to improve admission numbers to the School of Law and leading partnerships conversations with universities, internationally. She was also a member of the School Management Committee and an elected member of the School Research Committee.

Dr Fola is also the founder of the Global South Dialogue on Economic Crime, which is an interdisciplinary platform to advance dialogue, research, and capacity on economic crime. The Global South Dialogue on Economic Crime has had some awesome events, like webinars where lots of people come together to learn about important topics. Some webinars they’ve hosted include discussing unexplained wealth, whistleblowing in Africa, and countries that follow the rules for fighting financial crimes.

In August 2021, the network had its very first conference. It was a big deal and was held at Aston University. This conference was a chance for people to come together and share ideas about how to stop economic crime. It was a super important event for everyone involved.

Dr. Adeyemo’s superpower and expertise is that she is super smart when it comes to things like banking law and financial regulations. She studies how rules affect banks and financial crimes, like corruption. She even wrote a book about it! She’s also a champion for whistleblowers, the people who speak up about bad stuff happening in companies. Dr. Adeyemo knows and understands how they are crucial in fighting against corruption and crime, especially in Africa.

How is she changing the game? The Global education guru, Dr. Adeyemo is all about mixing local and international ideas in legal education. She believes that looking at problems from different angles is the key to solving them. She’s a big fan of teamwork and research in places that need it most. Not only is she a rockstar in the classroom, but Dr. Adeyemo also helps other scholars grow. She travels around Africa, teaching workshops and sharing her love for legal education. She’s like a legal education cheerleader!

Dr. Adeyemo isn’t stopping anytime soon. She’s got big plans to keep spreading the word about legal education and making sure African voices are heard on the global stage. With her on the case, the future of legal education looks brighter than ever!
