It’s never too late to chase after your dreams! 80-year old Donzella Washington from Alabama has become the oldest graduate from Alabama A&M University and she’s not done yet, she has her eyes set on bagging her master’s degree!
Washington graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.69 GPA with a degree in social work and in celebration, the elated new graduate dedicated her achievement to her late husband who she says had always been supportive of her, Rocket City Now reports.
The 80 year old plans to travel to inspire others.
Washington recalls stuttering badly as child and it had a major impact on her self-esteem. However she eventually overcame it, but she was well into her thirties and had to take four speech classes at the College of the Sequoias to defeat the problem. Slowly gained her confidence, learning to be patient with herself.
Between being married and raising 30 foster kids intertwined with theirs she ventured into real estate at a local bank for 18 years but never really found the time to complete a college degree.
Washington is thankful for her late husband who she says was the one who always pushed her to achieve her dreams. After graduating with flying colors, she also plans to continue studying to take up her master’s degree.
