Fox has got something really exciting in the works and fans can’t wait!
Actress and singer-songwriter LeToya Luckett of the defunct Destiny’s Child has been cast as co-lead alongside Yaya DaCosta, Morris Chestnut and newbie Alana Kaybright in the upcoming Fox drama series Our Kind of People.
The production coming from showrunner and executive producer of Mixed-ish Karin Gist and Empire’s Lee Daniels, written by Gist is inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s critically praised book Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class.
The series is set in the world of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, hosting the rich and powerful Black elite for more than 50 years. Our Kind of People follows strong-willed single mom Angela Vaughn (DaCosta) as she sets out to reclaim her family’s name and make an impact with her revolutionary haircare line that highlights the innate, natural beauty of Black women. But she soon discovers a dark secret about her mother’s past that will turn her world upside-down and shake up this community forever, Deadline reports.
Luckett will play Leah Franklin-Dupont, a strong, confident, elegant businesswoman married to Raymond (Chestnut) who sits at the top of the food chain of the wealthy, long-standing Black elite in Martha’s Vineyard.
Chestnut is known for The “Resident,” “Rosewood” , “The Best Man”films, “Boyz in the Hood,” “Think Like a Man,” and “The Call.” While Luckett currently in production on Lifetime’s Sisters previously recurred on OWN’s Greenleaf for three seasons, she also had recurring roles in Fox’s Rosewood and HBO’s Ballers.
