On the heels of becoming the first black woman to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Lena Waithe will be honored with the Trailblazer Award at next month’s MTV Movie & TV Awards.
“Lena is shaking up Hollywood and breaking cultural boundaries through her innovative and authentic storytelling,” said Amy Doyle, general manager of MTV, VH1 and Logo. “Her unwavering passion for equality and inclusion make her the perfect recipient for this year’s Trailblazer Award.”
Waithe’s career has skyrocketed over the last couple of years. From Dear White People to Showtime’s The Chi, Waithe’s storytelling ability not only highlights black people across all socioeconomic backgrounds and lifestyles but also proves that we’re not monolithic.
