Julie was born on July 25, 1939, and she had a really interesting background. Her dad was from the Yoruba group in Abeokuta, and her mom was from the Itsekiri people in Warri. She grew up in Lagos and went to St. Mary’s Convent primary school, where the nuns helped her discover her love for performing.

Julie’s big break came in 1957 when she won an arts festival at her school that got her noticed in the Daily Times Newspaper. This led to a scholarship at Holy Child College and winning Miss Western Nigeria in 1958. She even came in second place in the Miss Nigeria contest!

In the 1970s, Julie started a new chapter in her career by getting into music. She released some awesome albums like “Ere Yon” and “Tomorrow” that became super popular. She was also a big deal on TV and radio, entertaining people all over Nigeria.

In 2023, Kalita Records honored Julie by releasing a compilation of her best songs. People still love her music because it’s a mix of Afro disco and Itsekiri highlife. Her music and story will live on for generations to come.
