Judith Owigar is one of Kenya’s most influential voices in technology—and she’s using that voice to open doors for women across Africa. As a tech expert, entrepreneur, and advocate for gender inclusion, she understands just how wide the digital divide can be. But instead of standing on the sidelines, Judith decided to build a solution. She co-founded AkiraChix, an organization that equips young women with the digital and coding skills needed to not only survive—but thrive—in the tech world.

Her journey into tech wasn’t paved with ease. Judith faced numerous challenges as a woman entering a male-dominated industry. But it was those very obstacles that shaped her mission. Through AkiraChix, she offers training in programming, hardware design, entrepreneurship, and more—creating a space where young women can learn, grow, and gain the confidence to become leaders in their own right. What started as a small initiative has now blossomed into a movement that’s changing the face of African tech.

Since its founding in 2010, AkiraChix has trained hundreds of women, many of whom have gone on to secure high-impact roles in companies or start their own businesses. But Judith’s impact doesn’t stop at training. The organization also provides mentorship and internships, helping bridge the gap between education and employment. She believes that when women are included in tech, the entire ecosystem benefits—innovation becomes more inclusive, and the solutions become more meaningful.

Judith’s work is about more than teaching women how to code—it’s about transforming lives. By creating access to opportunities that were once out of reach, she’s building a more equitable
