Meet Honourable Larai Sylvia Ishaku, the newly elected Chairman of Jaba Local Government Area in Kaduna State. She has always believed in the power of education, starting from her days at Aduan One Primary School in Kafanchan to pursuing advanced degrees at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. With a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science and a Master’s in Information Management, Hon. Larai values continuous learning and sees education as a key aspect of leadership.
Aside from her academic achievements, Hon. Larai is actively involved in organizations like the Nigerian Library Association and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. She also plays a role in the Police Community Relations Committee and is a Rotarian in the Rotary Club of Asokoro. These experiences have shaped her leadership style, emphasizing trust-building and inclusivity in her approach to service.
As a seasoned entrepreneur, Hon. Larai has founded businesses such as LAJ-Cute Mansion Ltd and Mebeyya Whong Nig Ltd. Her fashion brand, LAJ Collections, showcases her innovative and diverse ventures. This entrepreneurial background equips her with the skills to manage resources effectively, address local needs creatively, and promote economic growth in her community.
Having served as the Senior Special Assistant on Social Investment Programs to the Kaduna State Governor, Hon. Larai understands the importance of policy, social welfare, and community engagement. Her experience managing the National Homegrown School Feeding Programme has given her insight into implementing sustainable social programs that benefit education, health, and economic empowerment.
With training at Henan University of Technology in China and experience with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, Hon. Larai is equipped to tackle Jaba’s challenges. Her participation in community policing workshops has honed her skills in proposal writing, policy advocacy, and resource mobilization. She is ready to address critical areas like food security, public safety, and infrastructure development.
As Hon. Larai prepares to be sworn in as Chairman on October 31, 2024, the community of Jaba anticipates the transformative leadership she promises.
