The Ghana Education Service (GES) has debunked rumours circulating about teachers in public schools being compelled to wear uniforms to school, tagging it “fake news.”
Recall that over the weekend, news had gone viral on social media about teachers having to report to work in peach coloured shirts and brown skirts and trousers.
Reacting to the rumours in a Facebook post on Sunday, the GES stated it had no authority to solely take the decision and would not issue a circular on social media.
According to the Service, if it were to embark on such a decision it would have to engage the various teacher unions.
“GES is one of the largest Government agencies in Ghana. We employ more than half of all government employees. If we want to introduce uniforms for teachers, we won’t do that through social media and over the weekend,” the Service added.
