May 16th this year, 2021, Nigerian footballer Asisat Oshoala made history as the first African and Nigerian woman to win a Champions League title.
Oshoala made an appearance in the game, coming on in the 71st minute as Barcelona closed out the game to secure the Champions League title.
From the streets of Ikorodu, Asisat defied the odds without her parent’s support to become a football star. The 26-year-old was first discovered while playing in a tournament for an unnamed team.
Many thanks to FC Robo club and later Rivers Angels in Nigeria she clinched her big break by signing for Liverpool Ladies and it’s been glory to glory for the beloved football star.
The Barcelona player was named best player and was the highest goal scorer at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
