Fashion’s biggest night just got a whole lot more literary—and undeniably chic. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the globally celebrated author and style icon, made her first-ever Met Gala appearance last night, and she did not come to play.

Dressed in a show-stopping red Prabal Gurung gown, Chimamanda embodied the 2025 Met Gala theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with effortless elegance. The custom design featured sharp, menswear-inspired tailoring, a cinched waist, dramatic bows, and a sweeping train adorned with feathers—because if you’re going to make your Met debut, you might as well go all out.

A Nod to Black Dandyism & African Excellence

The ensemble paid homage to Black dandyism, blending sophistication with a bold, avant-garde edge. Adichie, who also served on this year’s Met Gala host committee, accessorised with dazzling diamonds that perfectly complemented the fiery red silhouette.

Ahead of the event, the Half of a Yellow Sun author teased her appearance on Instagram Stories, sharing a snap of the exclusive Met Gala towel from The Plaza alongside her latest novel, Dream Count, with the caption: “Happy Met Monday.” A subtle flex? Absolutely.

Why This Moment Matters

While Chimamanda has long been a literary powerhouse, her foray into high fashion has been just as compelling. From her signature Ankara-infused looks to her recent Dream Count book tour outfits, she’s proven that her sartorial choices are as intentional as her prose.

Her presence at the Met—alongside fellow committee members like Usher, Ayo Edebiri, and Tyla—was a triumphant celebration of African creativity on one of fashion’s most exclusive stages.

The Verdict? She Absolutely Served.

Chimamanda didn’t just attend the Met Gala—she *owned it. And in true form, she left us with more than just a stunning look. She reminded us that style, like storytelling, is about bold choices and unapologetic brilliance.
