She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Lagos, a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London, a Diploma in Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and an Executive Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Ghana. She has also undertaken leadership programmes at globally recognised institutions, including Harvard Business School, Columbia University, INSEAD and Institut Villa Pierrefeu in Switzerland. Her diverse academic background reflects the analytical, strategic and business-focused mindset that has guided her leadership journey.

With more than two decades of experience in financial services, Bawuah has built an impressive career across banking, corporate leadership and business development. Her professional journey began with roles in investment and financial services before she gained experience at institutions including Standard Chartered Bank, where she served as Head of Sales, and CAL Bank, where she worked as a Relationship Manager. She later joined Zenith Bank Ghana, rising to the position of Executive Director after serving in key leadership roles, including General Manager and Group Head of Retail Banking.

In 2013, Bawuah joined United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana as Deputy Managing Director, bringing with her extensive experience and a strong understanding of the banking sector. She was subsequently appointed Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UBA Ghana, becoming the first woman to hold the position. Her leadership was marked by a focus on strengthening operations, improving customer experience and supporting the bank’s growth objectives.

Her leadership journey reached another significant milestone when she became the first-ever female Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa, overseeing the Group’s operations across multiple African markets. Previously serving as Regional CEO, West Africa, where she supervised subsidiaries across several countries, Bawuah has demonstrated the ability to lead across diverse markets and contribute to the expansion of one of Africa’s leading financial institutions.

Beyond her executive responsibilities, Bawuah represents the growing influence of women in Africa’s corporate leadership landscape.
