Naomi Osaka heard a young fan cheering her on at U.S Open Match and gifted her her Olympic Pin and yes, it’s a beautiful memory for a lifetime!
Tennis Champ Naomi Osaka made her grand return, making her first Grand Slam appearance since withdrawing from the French Open in May, citing mental health issues and it was indeed one to remember, especially for a young fan.
Although Osaka won her match on Monday against Czech player Marie Bouzkova at Arthur Ashe stadium in Flushing, New York but excitement topped up several notches when the 23 year old who had spotted the super excited fan cheering her on from the audience decided to run towards her gifting her a gift from the Tokyo Olympics after her US Open match:
“Thank you for cheering me on,” Osaka told her young supporter.
“I just heard her when I was playing my match, and she was so cute, so thank you for cheering me on,” Osaka said in a video clip shared by ESPN during her post-match interview in the stadium.
The young supporter was overwhelmed and waved from the stands, unbelievably thrilled to be singled out by the Japanese tennis star.
“In the Olympics, we got little pins that we were supposed to pass around to other players, you know, like trading pins,” Osaka continued. “And I wasn’t there for a long time, so I have a couple in my bag left over. But yeah, I thought it would be like a nice little memory.”
Twitter user Tim Blacksmith, who identifies as the girl’s father, tweeted a photo of himself and his daughter beaming in the stands.
“Dear @naomiosaka Thank You So Much For Making My Daughters First @usopen A Truly Memorable One. Much Love And Blessings,” he wrote in the caption.
Mum @neffiwalker also took to Instagram to gush about the honour writing:
“When Nile told me she was going to the US Open I didn’t think twice about it being that she attended the US Open matches since being in my womb, then this happened ??????
Naomi is her hero, she will never be the same ? To give her Olympic pin was such a loving, kind gesture, Naomi is beautiful poetic magic, a class act ?????
