For many Nigerians living abroad, success often comes with the question: how much should we give back to the homeland? Ann-Melody Oluwakemi Areola has consistently answered this question through action. A Nigerian-British entrepreneur, public relations expert, and social development strategist, she combines international experience with a deep commitment to creating sustainable impact in Nigeria. From empowering youth and women to bridging public and private sectors, Areola’s work demonstrates that professional success and meaningful social contribution can go hand in hand.
Born in the United Kingdom and raised partly in Nigeria, Areola grew up blending diverse cultures, an experience that later shaped her global perspective. She studied Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering at London Metropolitan University, complementing her technical expertise with advanced certifications including Cisco CCNA and PRINCE2 project management. Her academic journey culminated in a Doctorate in Business Administration, equipping her with both technical and strategic leadership skills that she now applies across multiple sectors while blending analytical thinking with creative problem-solving.
Before founding Vivacity Public Relations, Areola began her career as a creative entrepreneur and media communicator. In 2005, she launched Vivacity Models, a modelling agency that provided opportunities for over 500 young ethnic models, and Urban Vivacity, a boutique serving trendy urban fashion. Simultaneously, she appeared on TV and radio programmes, organised events, and contributed to print and online publications. Her early work in media promotion, event management, and community engagement revealed a natural flair for connecting people, coordinating brands, and managing public interactions. This foundation laid the groundwork for Vivacity PR to become a leading public relations firm. These formative experiences shaped her unique ability to bridge creativity with strategy, a skill she continues to deploy across multiple industries.
As a PR strategist and consultant, Areola’s professional career has flourished. Vivacity Public Relations now serves clients across entertainment, corporate sectors, and beyond, offering strategic communication, brand building, and event management. Her government appointments, including Special Assistant on Youth ICT and Corporate Relations to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development and Special Assistant on New Media to the Minister of Communications, further strengthened her reputation as a leader capable of bridging public and private sectors, translating insight and expertise into tangible results for communities and organisations alike.
Her influence extends far beyond corporate and government corridors. In 2019, she launched the Kemi Ann-Melody Areola Foundation (KAMAF), a charitable organisation dedicated to education access, family welfare, and children’s rights. She also co-founded Youth in Charity, a movement focused on poverty reduction and youth economic empowerment, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to sustainable, meaningful impact. Through these initiatives, Areola has cultivated programmes that empower the next generation, equipping young people and women with the skills, mentorship, and opportunities necessary to thrive.
Areola’s advocacy consistently champions gender equality and youth empowerment. She has developed initiatives under Women in Entertainment and Arts, recognising the contributions of women in creative industries, while also engaging in global dialogues on sustainable development and the future of work. Her leadership bridges local and international platforms, positioning her as a thought leader in youth engagement, social innovation, and the promotion of inclusive development.
Her achievements have earned widespread recognition. She has been honoured with the Jet Age Nation Builders Award and included among 110 Outstanding Women in Africa in the New Africa Leadership Hall of Fame. Her book, “40 Going on 80,” shares personal insights and lessons from her journey, inspiring a new generation to embrace ambition, resilience, and purpose. Through both her professional work and advocacy, Areola continues to demonstrate that success is most meaningful when it transforms lives and uplifts communities.
Today, Ann-Melody Oluwakemi Areola stands as a symbol of possibility and transformation, seamlessly blending technology, communication, and advocacy to empower communities. Her story is a reminder that leadership is measured not by titles alone but by the impact one creates, leaving a legacy of hope, opportunity, and change that continues to flourish with each young life she touches.
