Today September 11 we stand in ovation of one of Africa’s most powerful women, a mover and shaker in Nigeria’s media, entertainment world and beyond, a mogul without doubt, a woman of many titles, TV Producer, Filmmaker, Talk Show Hostess, Media Entrepreneur, Resource Management Consultant, Media Personality, Entrepreneur, Venture capitalist and a Philanthropist, Mosunmola Abudu popularly known as Mo Abudu.
Super accomplished- dubbed the Oprah Winfrey of Africa and “Africa’s most successful woman” Mo Abudu is the founder and CEO of Ebony Life, Africa’s first global black entertainment network which began broadcasting on 1st July, 2013 on Multichoice DSTV Channel 165.
EbonyLife TV, Africa’s first global black entertainment and lifestyle network, which began operation in 2013 d istowards fostering a positive narrative for Africa. A year later she launched Ebony Live Films which birthed Fifty, Nigeria’s highest-grossing drama,
In 2016, Abudu co-executive produced The Wedding Party, and became the highest-grossing title of all time at the Nigerian box office. In 2017, The Wedding Party was acquired by Netflix. She has since dishes out other mega hits.
Mo Abudu was born on 11th of September, 1964 in London where she spent her early years. She hails from Ondo town in Ondo State.
Abudu holds a Master’s degree in Human Resources Development from University of Westminster in London. She launched her professional career as a recruitment consultant in 1987. In 1993 she relocated to Nigeria and worked with Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (now ExxonMobil) as the head of their Human Resources and Administration.
Her independent streak would later lead to the birth of ‘Moments with Mo’, Africa’s first syndicated daily talk show. She has since gone on to establish herself as a woman of many firsts.
