Members of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Sokoto branch yesterday (Thursday) paid a courtesy visit to the state’s first lady, Hajiya Mariya Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
The visit of the female doctors led by President of the association, Dr. Constance O. Shehu was to solicit for Her Excellency’s support to work hand-in-hand in order to improve the health status and standard of living for women and children in Sokoto state.
This is in recognition of Her Excellency’s simultaneous visits to hospitals within the state to assist less privileged patients, and also her support for the health institutions.
Dr. Larai, a consultant with World Health Organization (WHO) reiterated their total support for Mariya’s initiatives which will help to reduce maternal mortality and stunted growth, and also tackle the percentage of out of school children in the state.
Accepting the appointment as a patron, the first lady thanked the women professionals for such an opportunity which is a great task for humanity. She called on the doctors to be more tolerant and patience with their day to day activities, as being a doctor requires a lot of patience.
She thanked them for the visit, which she said was the beginning of so many to come as they begin the journey to salvage the women and children of Sokoto state.
