The Nigerian Army has witnessed a historic milestone with the promotion of Second Lieutenant Oluchukwu Owowoh to the substantive rank of Lieutenant, as ordered by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. This significant achievement was announced by the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on X.com.

The decoration ceremony, held on June 26, 2024, at the Nigerian Defence Academy Officer’s Mess and Golf Club, was a momentous occasion. Major General JO Ochai, Commandant of the NDA, praised Lt. Owowoh’s exemplary track record as a cadet, highlighting her distinction as the first female Nigerian to be trained at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom. Her recent promotion underscores her outstanding performance and dedication to duty.

The event was attended by senior military officers, academic and non-academic staff, family members, and other well-wishers, celebrating Owowoh’s remarkable journey and accomplishments.

Lt. Oluchukwu Owowoh, 24, made history in April when she graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, becoming the first Nigerian female officer to do so. This achievement not only sets a precedent for future generations of female officers but also signifies a progressive step in the Nigerian Army’s commitment to gender inclusion and empowerment.

In his remarks, Major General Ochai emphasized the importance of Owowoh’s achievement in inspiring young women across Nigeria to pursue careers in the military. “Lt. Owowoh’s success is a testament to the potential that lies within our young women. Her journey demonstrates that with determination, excellence, and support, there are no limits to what can be achieved.”
