Dr. Amina Mohammed-Baloni (MBBS – Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, FWACP – Fellow of the West African College of Physicians, MPH – Master of Public Health) is one of Nigeria’s most influential healthcare leaders. With over 25 years of experience spanning clinical medicine, public health policy, and health systems governance, she has consistently transformed healthcare delivery across the country. Recently, she marked a new milestone by joining Fidson Healthcare Plc as an Independent Non-Executive Director, bringing her wealth of expertise from hospitals and state ministries to the corporate boardroom.
Her medical journey began at Ahmadu Bello University, where she earned her MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery), before specializing in internal medicine at ABU Teaching Hospital, becoming a consultant in 2004. She further enhanced her expertise with an MPH (Master of Public Health) and executive programs at Harvard Kennedy School, INSEAD, and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. This combination of clinical and public health training has given her a unique perspective that bridges hands-on patient care with strategic health governance.
Dr. Mohammed-Baloni’s early career involved direct clinical practice and public health initiatives, focusing on maternal and child health, immunization, and community programs. Her dedication led to her appointment as Commissioner for Health in Kaduna State, where she implemented transformative programs. These included a partnership with Zipline drones for rapid medical supply distribution and a pharmaceutical manufacturing MOU with PMG-MAN, aimed at strengthening local production of essential medicines.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she demonstrated exemplary leadership by coordinating Kaduna State’s response, overseeing testing, isolation protocols, and public health communications. Under her guidance, the state saw a reduction in malaria-related deaths among children under five and improvements in other key health indicators, reflecting the tangible impact of her policies on public health outcomes.
Beyond Kaduna, Dr. Mohammed-Baloni has held prominent governance roles in healthcare institutions. She currently chairs the Bauchi State Specialist Hospital Board and serves on the boards of the Solina Centre for International Development and Research (SCIDaR) and the African Resource Centre for Excellence in Supply Chain Management (ARC-ESM), leveraging her expertise to strengthen health systems and supply chains across the continent.
In November 2025, her appointment as Independent Non-Executive Director at Fidson Healthcare Plc marked a significant expansion of her influence into the corporate sector. Fidson aims to harness her extensive experience in medicine, public health, and health systems leadership to strengthen governance and guide strategic growth in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.
Dr. Amina Mohammed-Baloni’s career embodies a rare blend of clinical mastery, public health vision, and strategic governance. From hospitals and state ministries to corporate boardrooms, she continues to champion innovation, equity, and efficiency in healthcare delivery. As she assumes her role at Fidson, both the Nigerian health sector and the corporate world stand to benefit from her insight, leadership, and unwavering commitment to improving lives.
