From Lupita, to Obama and most recently Ben Carson-people of Kenyan heritage are making waves in the United States.
Now Kenya has another, extremely cute, feather to add to her cap: Alexis Wangu Wanguhu.
At just 5-years-old the adorable tot has already modeled for giant American brands including Old Navy, Gap, Melaleuca, Stanford Children’s Hospital, Pottery Barn and Avaaz.
Much like Lupita, who has topped headlines for her style, the youngster has made a name for herself in children’s fashion.
So how did Wawa get into modeling?
Wawa’s mother revealed that her daughter has had an agent since she was 18-months-old.
After conquering fashion, the talented tot now has her eyes on acting.
“Last year she got a chance to audition a couple of times in Los Angeles then landed another signing to one of the top agency in Hollywood,” said her mother.
Unlike many other actors who kick off their careers by auditioning for small time shows, Wawa has shot for the big leagues.
“… she got the opportunity to audition for Black-Ish. We are still waiting for a response we should hear something by the end of the week. Keeping our fingers crossed,” Ruah said.
So how did the accomplished 5-year-old feel about the audition?
“I was not afraid and it was like one minute to get out, they ask you to say your lines and then after that I saw the Disney princess Belle and Cinderella, it was fun,”
If she succeeds, it will be a dream come true for the toddler as she has shown an affinity for being on screen.
“She loves being in front of the camera and she’s always working on something new to share on her imaginary YouTube channel. She enjoys filming herself on the iPad, creating videos of herself hosting a show and interviewing her dolls or talking about her life,” elaborated the proud mum.
Wanting to see her succeed, her parents have encouraged her creativity: “We allow this because it totally builds and fuels her overall confidence. As her parents, we support and wish her all the success.”
Will she make it to the big screen? Time will tell, but for a 5-year-old she has already done Kenya extremely proud.
