Today February 5, 2022, we celebrate top Nigerian music star Tiwatope Savage as she adds another year.
Ever since her grand debut in the Nigerian music scene in 2013 with the release of her mega Once Upon a Time album which dished out multiple hits back to back such as: singles: “Kele Kele Love”, “Love Me (3x)”, “Without My Heart”, “Ife Wa Gbona”, “Folarin”, “Olorun Mi” and “Eminado” which well deservedly landed a nomination for Best Album of the Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and Best R&B/Pop Album at The Headies 2014, one fact has indisputably held true, this diva is here to stay.
Since then, its been greater heights for Savage, establishing herself as one of the continent’s brightest stars. In 2014, Tiwa Savage became the first female Nigerian artist to be nominated for BET awards.
Born in Isale Eko, Lagos, Nigeria, at age 11 she relocated to London for her secondary education. While there, years later she kicked off her music career doing backup vocals for artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige, going on to participate in the UK edition of The X Factor.
Upon graduating from Berklee College of Music, Savage signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2009, and in 2012 she moved back home delving into the Nigerian music scene and signing with Mavin Records. She has since moved on. In May 2019, she announced her record deal with Universal Music Group.
A thriving musical career, one of the country’s influential artists, multiple endorsement deals from the likes of M.T.N, Pepsi, Forte Oil, Maggi, and other big brands, no doubt, Tiwa Savage lives large, boasting of a 5 million dollars net worth.
In November 2018, Savage won Best African Act at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards, becoming the first woman to win the category. She is also a proud recipient of the MTV Europe Music Awards, The Headies Award, City People Awards, among others.
