Nike Oshinowo, born Adenike Asabi Oshinowo, is a multifaceted woman who has made a name for herself in several industries. Raised in Ibadan and England, Oshinowo initially intended to become an air hostess or doctor, but ultimately studied Politics at the University of Essex. Her mentorship from former Miss Nigeria Helen Prest led her to become the first Yoruba winner of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant in 1990. Her reign, however, was met with controversy and rumors of rigging.
Aside from her pageant success, Oshinowo is a well-respected entrepreneur who has dabbled in several business ventures. She ran the health and beauty day spa Skin Deep for seven years before launching her own range of beauty products for the Nigerian market. Oshinowo is also a fitness enthusiast, having released the first celebrity fitness DVD produced in Nigeria. In 2010, she purchased the Miss Nigeria franchise and became its chief executive and creative director, and went on to launch her own talk show in 2014.
Despite personal struggles with endometriosis and a divorce from her medical doctor husband, Oshinowo persevered and became a mother of twins via surrogacy at the age of 47.
