Karen Basiye is a distinguished Kenyan sustainability and corporate responsibility leader with more than a decade of experience integrating environmental stewardship with strategic business development.
She is widely recognised for advancing sustainable development across private and public sectors, particularly through leadership in environmental management, corporate responsibility, and social impact innovation. Her professional journey reflects a commitment to aligning organisational performance with long-term societal and ecological sustainability.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Kenyatta University and a joint Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from a European university consortium. Her academic foundation in environmental science and policy provides a strong framework for evidence-based sustainability leadership, enabling her to bridge scientific knowledge with practical corporate and development strategies.
Throughout her career, Karen has served in strategic institutions including the National Environment Management Authority of Kenya, where she contributed to environmental governance and regulatory sustainability frameworks. She later assumed leadership roles such as Director of Sustainable Business, Social Impact, and the M-Pesa Foundation at Safaricom PLC.
In this capacity, she helped shape sustainability reporting standards, community development investments, and social innovation programmes that connected corporate growth with community empowerment.
