Akuzike Favour Phiri is an emerging African youth leader and climate advocate whose work focuses on environmental sustainability and community empowerment. She holds an academic background in International Relations and Diplomacy from Mzuzu University, where she developed a strong foundation in global development, governance, and policy engagement. Her academic training has strengthened her understanding of international cooperation, policy frameworks, and sustainable development initiatives.
Her passion for environmental protection began early through participation in activities such as tree-planting initiatives and ecological awareness programmes. These experiences inspired a long-standing commitment to climate advocacy and environmental responsibility, particularly in encouraging sustainable practices within local communities and among young people.
Professionally, Akuzike serves as a Climate and Environmental Policy Manager within a local environmental organisation. In this role, she contributes to initiatives that promote conservation, climate awareness, and youth participation in environmental protection. Her work focuses on building knowledge, supporting environmental programmes, and encouraging communities to adopt practices that protect natural resources and promote sustainability.
She is also a certified youth climate negotiator and actively participates in youth climate networks that promote dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange on climate policy and environmental governance. Through these engagements, she contributes to strengthening youth voices in climate discussions and encourages young leaders to participate actively in shaping sustainable futures.
In recognition of her growing leadership impact, Akuzike was recently appointed Malawi Country Representative for Duchess African Empowerment Foundation. In this capacity, she supports initiatives that promote youth advocacy and women’s empowerment, contributing to community development and inclusive social progress across Malawi.
