Media gal Eku Edewor

Entertainment Royalty! British Nigerian television presenter, model, and actress Georgina Chloe Eku Edewor-Thorley, simply known as Eku Edewor most definitely needs no introduction.

The tv darling, born in London, along with her twin sister Kessiana to mother Juliana Edewor, an interior designer, restaurateur, and art collector from Delta State, and her father, Hugh Thorley, a British who worked in the food and beverage supply and logistics industries, Eku Edewor had the privilege of being raised in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Although she had been steadily building up fame in the background, she established herself as a known figure many thanks to her work as host of the beloved Africa Magic lifestyle television program 53 Extra – named for the 53 countries in the African Union. It wrapped up in 2020 and since then, she has further done several tv hosting gigs as well as embraced acting, warming hearts with her role as “Nneka” in Castle and Castle, Nigeria’s first legal drama

Before the spotlight, way back, Edewor attended Warwick University in Coventry, England where she pursued a degree in English Literature and Theatre Studies, graduating with honors in 2008. Straight out of Warwick University, she began working for film producer Damian Jones as a part-time assistant, juggling with being a sales assistant in Matches, a fashion retail chain in the UK.
She worked at his company DJ Films from September 2008 through October 2009, later going ahead to appear in the 2010 film Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll as “Party Girl”. Her passion led her to the New York Film Academy in 2009 where she developed her ‘acting for film’ skills, prior to that, she had her hands in theater work.

The screen star had her television debut in 2006 as a model where she competed in the hit reality show Britain’s Next Top Model. Fast forward to 2010 after the loss of her stepfather, Edewor returned to Nigeria to work in her mother’s restaurant, the Chardonnay Restaurant, and Bar, so that her mother could focus on her career as an interior designer. Five months in and acting called once again, she went ahead to audition for co-presenter on 53 Extra (formerly Studio 53 Extra), she was a natural, cameras instantly loved her and since then, there’s been no looking back.

Since landing her role on 53 Extra, Edewor has made several other television appearances including hosting the Big Brother Africa All Stars live red carpet show in 2010, Pepsi Top Ten Countdown since 2012, amongst others.

Edewor as an actress appeared in the television series The Island, but her first major film role in the 2013 romantic comedy film Flower Girl, established her as an actress. She has since starred in other productions including When Love Comes Around, amongst others.

On her most fulfilling experience, she says;

“I hosted the Channel O Africa Music Awards, and it was a huge achievement in my time served as a presenter to be offered such a big platform representing myself as a Nigerian on an African platform to an African audience. I felt validated and I felt accomplished—if I could handle this, I could handle anything.”
