The McGee family has got the headlines once again.
Hall of Famer and USC Trojans legend Pamela McGeen and Three time NBA champ/ now Olympic gold medalist, JaVale McGee have rewritten history as the first mother and son to win gold medals in Olympic history.
Many thanks to Team USA’s victory over France at the #Tokyo2020 Olympics in basketball, beating France 87-82 on Saturday, JaVale McGee secured a spot as an Olympic champion for the very first time, thereby making history with mom, Pam McGee, thirty-seven years later.
“It’s an amazing feeling, man,” said [JaVale] McGee said “I’ve got a gold medal. My mother has a gold medal. We’re the first to do it, mother-son duo. It’s an amazing feeling. You can’t really explain it. Just knowing you’re the best in the world, amazing, man.”
He also celebrated via series of posts on Instagram, sharing a throwback photo with Pamela who in 1984 led USA Basketball to its first-ever gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics beating South Korea 85-55 to clinch gold, paying homage, he wrote:
“The originator, the woman who sacrificed, the standard to live up too! LOVE YOU MA!”
He shared another;
Pamela also makes history as the only former WNBA player with children who have played in the NBA and WNBA. JaVale has played in the NBA for more than a decade, while younger sister Imani McGee-Stafford played in the WNBA from 2016 to 2019.
